Re-examination of medical diability percentages or degree of incapacity

What is re-examination?

Re-examination of your medical situation to determine anew your degree of medical disability and ability to work.

It is Important to know that, even in cases where re-examination takes place at the insured's request, the NII is permitted to reduce its previously determined degree of medical disability, as well as level of fitness.

When can you request re-examination?

Re-examination of percentages of medical disability and degree of incapacity

You may ask for the re-examination of the percentages of medical disability and/or degree of incapacity that you have been granted, if 6 months have elapsed since your last test, and you meet one of the following conditions:

  • Your claim for a disability benefit was rejected because the low degree of medical disability that you were awarded did not entitle you to a benefit.
  • Your claim for a disability benefit was rejected because the level of inability to work that you were awarded did not entitle you to a benefit.
  • You were awarded a partial disability allowance because you were determined to have a partial inability to work.

Please note: If your claim for a disability benefit was rejected for another reason, such as high income, and your income has since fallen, you may submit another claim with no delay.

Re-examination of percentages of medical disability only

You may ask for the re-examination of your percentages of medical disability only, if your medical condition has worsened and you meet all following conditions:

  1. You have been determined to have an incapacity of 75% or 100%
  2. More than 12 months have elapsed since your previous test.
  3. A physician certified by the NII has determined that your medical condition has worsened.
  4. You are not institutionalized.

Submitting a re-examination request

To be able to re-examine your situation, you need to submit a re-examination request and send it to the handling branch through the document delivery service on the website.

When will the NII initiate re-examination?

The NII will request that you be re-examined only if there has been an improvement in your medical condition as a result of medical treatment you have received.
